Dear Families,

We are off to a great start!  The children have been working hard to learn the school rules and procedures.  They have all been doing a great job in first grade.  I am very pleased to have such a wonderful class.

*Science

Our study of living organisms has been very rewarding already.  Be sure to ask your child about our caterpillars and other interesting organisms.

*Specials

This year your child will receive instruction in Art, Music, Physical Education and Library. Our class is scheduled to have Art on Mondays, Physical Education on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Music on Wednesdays and Library on Fridays.

*Library

Please remember to have your child bring his/her library book every Friday.  Our class earns points for having everyone remember their books.  It’s a good idea to keep your child’s library book in his/her book bag whenever it’s not being read.  This will ensure that your child has the book on library day.  Your child may get a new library book only if the old one is returned.  With over 20,000 books available in the school library, you don’t want your child to miss an opportunity to make the best use of this facility.  We are also allowed to send 2-4 students to the library on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings to exchange books.

*Physical Education

Your child is required to wear sneakers in order to participate in Gym Class.  Comfortable, non-slip shoes are recommended EVERY DAY to keep your child safe on the playground.  By having your child wear sneakers every day, you eliminate the need to worry about which days s/he has gym.

*Supplies Needed:

Buttons and old keys for our math collection

Colored lids from coffee cans, margarine tubs, icing containers, etc

I would like to have a recent photo of your child if you haven’t already sent one.

Each child needs a child size shoe box to keep in his/her desk to hold supplies.

Please do not send liquid glue to school.  It can be very messy if spilled in a desk.  Glue sticks are a much neater alternative.

Thank you for making sure your child has pencils, crayons, scissors, glue sticks and a shoe box to hold supplies.  It’s great to have students who are so well prepared.

*Open House

I am looking forward to seeing you at Open House on Tuesday, September 16th.

*Communication

Please feel free to contact me to share information about your child.  The fastest way to get in touch with me would be by sending a note with your child.  You are welcome to email me, but I am not able to check emails until after the students leave each day.  My email address is npapi@colonial.k12.de .us.  If you have access to email, please send me an email from the address you use so I will have your address.  If you have any questions or comments, please include them in your email. Otherwise, just email me your child’s name from your email address.

Thank you for your support,

Nancy Papi
